Rhubarb Rye Soda

Rhubarb Rye Soda

Sharing is caring!

We are excited that it is Friday.  It hasn’t been a long week for us, just a bit trying.  Nothing serious.  Normal owning your own business stuff.  Nevertheless, we are thrilled to head into a great weekend.  To kick off the weekend and summer being official, we are making some cocktails.  And we are having a give-away.  Remember that delicious Rhubarb Raspberry Sodas we made earlier this week?  Well, we are making the adult version for a little happy hour tonight with these Rhubarb Rye Sodas.  Warning you, these are addictive and refreshing.  Perfect for a hot night.   Or a hot date.  Rye goes really well with the slightly sweet but tart simple syrup, and a splash of bubbly water makes it refreshing.

What do you have planned for the weekend?  Cocktails involved?  We are teaching a food photography workshop over at the playground;  which we are really excited about.  As well we are having dinner with some newish friends, and we heard negronis will be served.

Now to the giveaway … if you received our newsletter, you knew this was coming today.  We have been so busy with work that we skipped our 5 years blogiversary the beginning of May.  It has been really fun having you along on our culinary journey the past five years.  When we started the site, little did we know, it would even make it past a year.   Your readership has made us grow.  We usually do a little giveaway to celebrate each of our blogiversaries, but decided that this year, since it is a “biggie”, we would do more.  From now until the end of the year, we are going to give away something every month.  Not going to say that, but, it will be something that is dear to us in our kitchen and/or dining experiences.

We adore Morris Kitchen simple syrups.  Not only are they great in cocktails;  but, we have been using them for everyday recipes as well.  The fine folks at Morris Kitchen sent us a box of their syrups to play with and to share with you.  To spice up your summer, we will be giving away a bottle of the Ginger Syrup.

Here are a few recipes that the Ginger Syrup is great in:

Well, first I need to comment on this delicious looking cocktail. I have never had rhubarb and rye together, but what a combo!

As for the ginger syrup. I might make my own ginger beer so I can make Dark 'n Stormies :-)

I'd use it as a base for homemade ginger ale!

I don't think you can go wrong using it to make a glaze for a lemon cake. Yum!
