Zucchini Galettes

Tonight I actually busted out a recipe in the newest addition of Bon Appetit.  If you have been reading this blog for awhile, you know this is unusual, as I am usually a month or so behind in reading the Chez US Library.  Just happened that this little morsel arrived right as I was planning out the weeks worth of dinners and I turned to the page and saw them, savory little galettes.

The first time I had a galette I was in Paris and it was a mixed berry one.  I loved how rustic this little tart was.  Not perfect in looks;  but, perfect in taste.  I make them often in the summer using berries and stone fruits.  Sometimes I will even put a layer of almonds on the bottom to mixture up the flavor and texture.  I just really think the rustic simplicity makes the Galette so “romantic”.

Food Magazine Whore

I admit it, I am a foodie whore! I love the covers on all food magazines. I am not sure which I love the best or for that matter if I even love them because of the food or just the photos. I use to be strictly a Food & Wine gal, then I added Bon Apetite when there was nothing else available on a layover and I discovered they had re-done their magazine and I loved it. Then after another layover in New York, I discovered the redone Gourmet and fell in love again, then along came Donna Hay and the list keeps growing and the stacks get bigger! But, I have to admit, I am really digging Gourmet and their pretty glossy covers! Every month when I am walking to our mail box and I see the package sticking out, I can hardly wait to see which one it it and I am always ripping off the plastic on the Gourmet before hitting the from door! Unfortunately, I have been so busy that I have not really had a chance to look through the August edition and now we are well into September, so last weekend I sat down and read through it! Not only are there some great articles this go around ; but, I am very excited to be trying out some new recipes!  Such as ……..

Almond Chutney Chicken Lettuce Roll Ups

Almond chutney chicken in lettuce rollups, dinner, cooking, recipes, culinary, homemade, easy dinners, GYO, Grow your own

Summer has finally arrived in San Francisco.  We were pretty excited to come home from holiday to find warm and sunny weather.  We never know how short that window will be, so we tend to break out the tank tops, light tees, sundresses, shorts and take full advantage of the warm evenings!  We spent the evening on the deck sipping rose and enjoying the stillness that was filling the air;  not to mention the smell of the lavender and lemon verbena that we have growing and that was incredibly full of life this evening.  It definitely was an evening that was not meant to be over a stove, one that was meant to be enjoyed outdoors!  I found this recipe for Almond Chutney Chicken Lettuce Roll-ups a couple months ago and have been itching to make them, tonight would be the night!

As well we would be able to participate in Andrea’s GYO event since we were using basil and lemon verbena from the garden.  Noob Cook is co-hosting this month with Andrea, so be sure to check out all the wonderful entries on her site!

De-constructed Eggplant Parmesan Risotto

we are finally back from our little holiday (more to come on that – yum). It took a couple days to get back into the swing of actually being back home and not sipping margaritas on some lonely beach in Mexico – I know, I just have to rub it in a little bit more!

Anyhow, after all the fantastic Mexican food, I am actually craving Italian in a big way. We went out last night and loaded up on some carbs and tonight after a killer spin class and only two lonely eggplants in the fridge, I had to come up with something to cure that craving. I had wanted to go the spicy eggplant route from a previous meal we had; but, Lenny decided to bring a little friend home from Mexico and demanded, NO SPICY!
