I was EXCITED when I saw this month’s Daring Baker’s Challenge. Meetak of What’s for Lunch Honey and Tony of Tony Tahhan were our hostesses this month and they picked, Sugar Daddy Pierre Herme’s Chocolate Eclairs. After this challenge, I should be saying, my new sugar daddy’s sinfully chocolate eclairs! WOW!
I have been itching to make chocolate eclairs since I saw the French edition of Gourmet a few months back and have not had a chance or a reason to make them; after all, it is the LAST thing we need laying around our house!!! I knew I had to make them before heading out for vacation and lucky for me, the perfect opportunity came up, dinner at W & E’s house. I knew the MEM would appreciate a little chocolate in their lives…….

Priceless … sunset on the beach, two margaritas, plate of shrimp with fries & pickled onions, all for 50 pesos!
Hola! It has been a cold summer in San Francisco, so we have decided to jump on the next flight out of town, we are in search of sunshine & warm weather. Just give us a beach, a margarita and a lot of R & R. We may even be doing some location cooking, as the areas we will be in are all about their seafood, so be sure to check back!
Come dine with us soon!

We had to really think about pantries when Lydia over at the Perfect Pantry was going to take a peek into ours. Have we ever had a big pantry? I do remember having one in one of the homes I grew up in & I liked looking in it, I remember opening the door often and just staring into it. My dad and stepmom have one, now; but, they really don’t have much in it, probably almost the same sort of things that we do. Lenny’s mother has one, which, I personally have never looked in and I highly double Lenny has! But, personally, NO! Of all the places I/we have lived on our own, the past twenty some years, neither of us have EVER had a big pantry. It is not a bad thing to have a big pantry; but, it is kind of like having a big house, you just end up collecting stuff! In all honesty, the idea of food “stuff” lingering around in our pantry, kind of grosses us out. We are the type of people who don’t really care for leftovers for insistence, let alone a pile of “pantry stuff”. As well, we pretty much eat exactly what we buy on a weekly basis and we have a tendency to only have perishable items on hand. We definitely try our hardest to eat locally, organic and sustainablly as much as possible. As well you will not find junk food, processed food, snack food, or quick fix frozen food. The staples we keep on our one shelve pantry are …. well, click on the above photo and find out!
I followed some crumbs from MattBites, last week, over to the weekly food blog event, Food Fest. Food Fest is co-hosted by Margaret of A Way to Garden and Deb over at Dinner Tonight. Each week they pick a vegetable that is in season and we the readers and chefs get to create something to eat! This weeks challenge was corn.

get those veggies rolling.
I am a self-proclaimed foodie. I eat, breath, sleep and love everything about food. After all it is one thing that you can use all your senses for: See, Taste, Touch, Smell & Hearing. I missed my calling, if I would had taken food so seriously 20 years ago, who knows I could be the next big name in Manhattan or even say, Paris. Instead, I do what I love to do, for the ones I love.
Lenny, well, he could really care less about food. It is NOT a priority for him. If, I slapped down a bowl of cherrios with a side of hot sauce, he would probably be just as happy as he is when I give him a plate of food that I have pride in. Ultimately, while he can not really complain, he just does not care about food or the eating of it, as in the same breath that I do. Now, he does care about what he puts in his body – no fast food, no fried food, not too much meat, blah blah blah; but, the final decision as to what we eat, no big deal. Do I wish that he cared? Of course, I wish he did at least a little bit, probably the same way he wishes I was a hard-core rock climber, ready to tackle the nose. Reality, it will probably not happen in the next 6 months.

WE are both sooo tired from our days, that we could barely even think about eating, let alone standing in the kitchen and cooking. I have been having insatiable cravings for spring rolls, too, and that was the original plan tonight. As I stood there looking at these baby eggplant, I said hell with it, it was going to be a Donna Hay sort of night! So I looked up her summer Ratatouille recipe and started chopping away – yellow squash, green squash, red onions eggplant, the first of summer dry farmed tomatoes (if you are a regular reader, you know HOW we love these) and then I drizzled everything with fresh rosemary from the garden and a healthy dose of olive oil. In 40 minutes we had a nice big bowl of Ratatouille – yum!
Life has definitely taken over Chez US recently. I feel terrible that it has taken me almost a month to test out this product and write a review of it! Leslie Haywood, founder of Grill Charms, sent us a nice package with these cute little charmed life grill charms. I normally do not do this sort of thing; but, Leslie was so sweet and I liked the concept of her product, as well we are big supporters of startups and especially women started companies, we could not say no to try out her product. Unfortunately, we have been so busy with our own company that this package has been sitting on the counter for a few weeks now. I keep waiting for the weather to get warm enough to actually fire up the grill. Well, that night has not arrived yet, so we braved the cold and fired up the grill last week. We were making grilled pork chops, Lenny likes his extra spicy and I like mine just a little spicy!

Leslie’s grill charms are similar to the wine charm concept – everyone picks their favorite charm and attaches it to their cut of meat. The stainless steel charms are serrated to hold securely while grilling and flipping. I was a little suspect when I tossed them onto the grill; but, NO, they did not budge! They are great for the grill master who entertains a group who may have certain requirements, health or allergy concerns, no spicy, no salt, they like theirs well done, etc.. when dinner comes off the grill everyone knows which one is theirs! So, we picked our charms and got grilling.
The end result perfectly cooked pork for each of us, no slicing of little pieces here and there to see which one was spicier. Not only are they very practical for this reason; but, they are also adorable and a fun way to dress up your meat at your next bbq.
I can only imagine how these would be a BIG hit with your kids as well, especially little girls, since they are all into jewels. Also, Christmas is around the corner, these would make a perfect stocking stuffer or the addition to a set of grill tools! You have that hard to buy person to shop for here is the grill accessory for them! Shop for Grill Charms!
Check out Leslie’s demo video as well!
