Not sure what it is, but no matter how much or how little time we spend back in Boston, we always seem to bring an extra 6 pounds home with us and it is not luggage pounds, it is the spare tire around our waists. It is hard as Lenny’s mother is a great cook and she enjoys doing it for us; but, every time we get home it is the battle of the budge. This scares us, as we wonder, will this happen to us on a regular bases if we ever moved there???!!! Definitely something to think about.
We have a good friend back in Boston, Stan. He loves to come visit us very often, he loves the city; but, more I think he loves the escape from his routine in Boston not to mention all the food he is always eating; yes, he too is Portuguese and has a mother who loves to feed him. During his visit last December, he said he became inspired by us. He said he loved our live style (living our lives the way we want too), how active we were (hitting spin class three times a week) and our diet (organic and local). Well, he went home, changed his eating habits and started working out more and actually started training for a tri-althon. When we went there for Christmas, everyone was amazed and in awe by this new Stan and they wondered, what we did to him!

We just got back from Boston! It always seems to take a good week to really get back into our routine after arriving home, as well Lenny is always a bit sad after we get back and I try my best to put a smile on his face. During a quick run to the grocery store, I decided to surprise him with one of his favorite Portuguese dishes that I can make, Kale and Chick Pea Soup.

I had all intentions to make the summer fruit galette which is this weeks challenge, chosen by Michelle of Michelle in Colorado Springs; but, we have been traveling and visiting Lenny’s family the past two weeks. Unfortunately, I am not allowed in the kitchen when back there so I had to put these recipes on hold. I am going to try to make it this weekend as we love galette!
In the meantime, please check in with the other TWD members; you will not be disappointed!
Hey Hey Hey, it’s time for Donna! Hay Hay it’s Donna Day, is an event that was originally created by Barbara of Winos and Foodies and now has been taken over by the wonderful Bron Marshall. Alexandra, over at Addicted Sweet Tooth is hosting this month’s Hay Hay it’s Donna Day and lucky for all of us it is Tiramisu. The Italian classic Tiramisu translates into “Pick me up” or “Make me feel better” and after a long tiring day at work, we both needed this!
I remember the first time I had REALLY good Tiramisu, I was over in Rome. We were dining at a place behind the college laden stairs of the Spanish Steps, a hidden treasure, as we were told. This treasure was called Ristorante Alla Rampa and it turns out that they have quite the cult following. The highlight of the evening was when this slurpy cute waiter came out and announced that Tiramisu would be for dessert; not him! My friend, Sheena, loves the stuff and we were pretty excited to see him walking to our table with a huge bowl of Tiramisus. The best part, we could have as much as we wanted, a little scoop, a bowl of it or just leave the serving dish and we will do it good! This was the first time, the first real Italian Tiramisu and what a fond memory of the ultra creamy marscapone and chocolate, as it melts away on your tongue with every single bit……

Warning: DO NOT eat before going to bed!
This weeks TWD challenge, spelled comfort! Melissa, over at Melissa’s Kitchen picked Chocolate pudding. As soon as I saw what our challenge was, it brought up all kinds of memories of childhood. Mind you back in those days, it basically was Jello brand pudding around our house, only. I use to love the creamiest of pudding, especially Chocolate and Banana, not necessarily together either. I loved it in a bowl, on a spoon, or in my mouth.

It has been awhile since I have blogged about a meal at Chez US. This does not mean, I have given up the position at the stove, it just means my MOJO has been somewhere else. On top of traveling for pure pleasure the past couple of weeks, I just have not been snapping with the camera. It is coming back, I can feel it, so watch out!

I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill; that should be the theme with this wonderful pie! I was really hoping when the challenge for TWD was announced for the 4th of July week, that it was not going to be a gooey cake; but, instead, something that would scream SUMMER. Amy, over at South in Your Mouth, came through with the absolute perfect challenge. We thank you and my family thanks you!
